Phonak: Swiss Engineering for Hearing in Noise

Phonak was founded in Switzerland in 1947 and is part of Sonova, one of the world’s largest hearing care companies. It is best known for helping people hear in the hardest places, like busy restaurants, meetings and classrooms, and for hearing aids that connect to almost any phone.

In 2024 Phonak introduced hearing aids with a dedicated AI chip that separates speech from noise in real time. Its newest range, Audéo EON, takes that technology and makes it smaller, lighter and more efficient.

Phonak hearing aids are designed to help you:

  • Understand speech in noisy restaurants and groups
  • Connect to iPhone, Android and other Bluetooth devices
  • Hear clearly at a distance with Roger microphones
  • Cut down wind noise outdoors

The Latest: Phonak Audéo EON

Phonak announced Audéo EON in August 2026, with Australian availability following from September 2026. It replaces the Audéo Sphere Infinio as Phonak’s flagship.

What’s new

  1. New HYPERSONIC chip. Phonak’s own chip runs its deep neural network (DNN) while using much less power.
  2. Spheric Speech Clarity 3.0. The AI separates speech from background noise in real time, from any direction. Phonak says wearers are twice as likely to understand every word, with up to 37% less listening effort than its previous StereoZoom 2.0 technology.
  3. Smaller and lighter. Phonak says EON Sphere is 25% smaller and 20% lighter than the original Sphere, so the AI benefits now come in a more discreet hearing aid.
  4. AutoSense OS AI. The hearing aid recognises where you are and adjusts automatically.
  5. WindBlock 2.0. Phonak says it can reduce wind noise by up to 50 dB.
  6. Battery and connectivity. Up to 38 hours on a charge (less with heavy streaming and AI use), Bluetooth to virtually any phone, two active connections, Roger and Auracast.

EON models

  1. Audéo EON Sphere: the flagship, with Spheric Speech Clarity.
  2. Audéo EON R: rechargeable receiver-in-canal.
  3. CROS EON R: for people with no usable hearing in one ear.

The Phonak Range

  1. Audéo EON: the 2026 receiver-in-canal range (Sphere, R and CROS).
  2. Audéo Infinio and Sphere Infinio: the previous generation, still a strong option. Phonak plans to add Auracast to these by firmware update.
  3. Virto R Infinio: a rechargeable custom hearing aid made from an impression of your ear.
  4. Naída Lumity: powerful behind-the-ear hearing aids for severe to profound hearing loss.
  5. Sky Lumity: Phonak’s hearing aids designed for children.
  6. Roger: wireless microphones that send a speaker’s voice straight to your hearing aids, in meetings, lectures, classrooms and noisy places.

What Phonak Does Best

  1. Hearing in noise. Phonak’s AI-powered Sphere technology is built specifically for understanding speech in loud places.
  2. Roger microphones. The most established remote microphone system for hearing at a distance and in noise.
  3. Universal Bluetooth. Connects directly to iPhone and Android phones, tablets and laptops.
  4. Children and single-sided hearing loss. Dedicated kids’ hearing aids and CROS solutions.

Who Phonak Suits

  1. People who struggle most in noisy restaurants, cafes and groups.
  2. Android users, and people who use several devices.
  3. Students and workers who need a Roger microphone.
  4. Children, and people with hearing in only one ear.

Apps, Remote Care and Tinnitus Support

  1. myPhonak app: adjust volume and programs, keep a hearing diary, find a lost hearing aid and join Auracast streams by scanning a QR code.
  2. Remote Support: your audiologist can adjust your hearing aids in real time over a video call.
  3. myPhonak Junior: helps parents manage their child’s hearing aids.
  4. Tinnitus: Phonak Tinnitus Balance provides adjustable sound therapy, set up by your audiologist and controlled in the app.

Why Get Your Phonak Hearing Aids Fitted at NeuroAudiology

A hearing aid is only as good as the person fitting it. The same device can sound completely different depending on how it’s programmed, so the fitting matters as much as the brand.

  1. We test first. A full diagnostic hearing assessment by an audiologist comes before any recommendation. Medicare rebates may apply.
  2. We fit several leading brands. That means we recommend what suits your hearing, lifestyle and budget, not one manufacturer’s catalogue.
  3. Programmed to your results. Your hearing aids are set up from your own hearing test, then fine-tuned at follow-up visits as your brain adjusts.
  4. Government subsidised options. Eligible pensioners and DVA card holders can access subsidised hearing aids through the Hearing Services Program. We check your eligibility and handle the paperwork.
  5. Ongoing care. Follow-up appointments, fine-tuning, cleaning and remote adjustments are part of the service, at five clinics across Sydney.

Phonak Hearing Aids: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the newest Phonak hearing aid?

Phonak Audéo EON, announced in August 2026, is Phonak’s newest range. Australian availability started rolling out from September 2026. Ask us which EON models we can fit now.

What is Phonak Sphere?

Sphere is Phonak’s AI technology for hearing in noise. It uses a deep neural network on a dedicated chip to separate speech from background noise in real time. Audéo EON Sphere is the newest version.

Do Phonak hearing aids work with Android phones?

Yes. Phonak uses universal Bluetooth, so its hearing aids connect directly to iPhone, Android and most other Bluetooth devices, and can stay connected to two at once.

What is a Roger microphone?

Roger is a wireless microphone system. The speaker wears or places a small microphone, and their voice goes straight to your hearing aids. It is one of the best tools for meetings, lectures, classrooms and noisy places.

Can I get Phonak hearing aids through the Hearing Services Program?

If you’re an eligible pensioner or DVA card holder, you may be able to get fully subsidised hearing aids, or top up to a higher technology level. Availability of specific Phonak models under the program varies, so we’ll show you exactly what’s covered after your hearing test.

How long do Phonak hearing aids last?

Most modern hearing aids last around five years with good care. Regular cleaning, wax guard changes and check-ups at the clinic help them last longer and keep working properly.

Do I need a hearing test before buying hearing aids?

Yes. A full hearing assessment tells us the type and degree of your hearing loss and whether anything else is going on, such as wax or a middle ear problem. It is the only way to choose and program a hearing aid properly.

Can I try hearing aids before committing?

Ask us about a trial. Wearing a hearing aid in your own daily life is the best way to know if it is right for you.
