Hi, I'm Mo Helou

Founder and Principal Audiologist, NeuroAudiology Australia. I started this clinic because people with hearing, dizziness and tinnitus problems deserved one place that looked at the whole picture.

From One Car to Five Clinics

I started my career at Bay Audio, and in my first year I was named Rookie Clinician of the Year out of 130 clinicians.

The same request kept coming up: patients asking me to remove their earwax, and the clinic didn’t offer it. So in November 2022 I started Mobile Earwax Specialist. I worked full time during the week and spent my weekends driving to patients’ homes and aged care facilities, with one car and one suction unit.

Demand grew faster than I expected. When a neurologist needed an audiologist for patients with dizziness and offered me space in his rooms, that became NeuroAudiology Australia. Today we have five clinics across Sydney and a team of 10, and we’ve looked after more than 5,000 patients and 10,000 ears.

Why I Built NeuroAudiology

Most hearing clinics are built around selling hearing aids. I wanted to build one around diagnosis. That’s why we bulk bill vestibular assessments and the cochlear implant process with us, why we work so closely with ENTs and neurologists, and why every patient leaves knowing exactly what’s going on and what their options are.

What I Believe

  1. Test first, sell never. Nobody should walk out of a hearing appointment with a sales pitch. We test, explain your results in plain English and only recommend what you need.
  2. One place, not three. Hearing tests, earwax removal, vertigo, tinnitus, hearing aids and cochlear implants shouldn’t mean three clinics and three waiting lists.
  3. Joined-up care. I work side by side with GPs, ENTs and neurologists, and your doctor always gets a clear report.
  4. Explain everything. When you understand your hearing, you make better decisions about it.

Where I Come From

I grew up and went to school in Tripoli, Lebanon. In Sydney I studied a Bachelor of Medical Science at Western Sydney University, then a Master of Clinical Audiology at Macquarie University, where my research looked at how the brain processes everyday conversation. That shaped how I practise: hearing happens in the brain as much as the ears, so good care has to look at the whole person.

I’m an Accredited Audiologist and Full Member of Audiology Australia, I’m trained in microsuction, irrigation and mechanical earwax removal, and I see patients in English and Arabic.

Things I’m Proud Of

  1. Being named Rookie Clinician of the Year at Bay Audio, out of 130 clinicians.
  2. Being featured in Hearing Practitioner Australia, including “The rise of cerumen removal”, and being appointed Strategic Advisor to Hearing Implants Australia.
  3. Being a trusted guest on 2GB, talking about hearing loss, tinnitus, vertigo, sudden hearing loss and earwax.
  4. Speaking at Audiology Australia conferences, including the Blue Mountains conference, and serving on the 2025 national conference organising committee.
  5. Representing Australia at the Oticon Eriksholm Summer Camp in Denmark.

Giving Back

On my first self-funded volunteer hearing mission I saw the need first hand, and I knew I wanted to keep doing this work.

In 2025 I founded the EarDoc Hearing Foundation, a registered health promotion charity. Our missions are self-funded: an ongoing hearing program for children in Lebanon, where I grew up, and a mission to Fiji in early 2026.

For a child who can’t hear, everything is harder: learning to speak, school, making friends. A hearing test can change the direction of their life.

My Dream

I want hearing care that doesn’t depend on where you live, how much money you have or how well you know the system. In Australia that means honest, joined-up care in every clinic we run, and telehealth for people who can’t get to us. Overseas it means more missions and more children tested, in Lebanon, the Pacific and wherever the need is greatest.

And I want to build a team strong enough to keep doing this long after it stops being about me.
