Starkey: Hearing Aids That Do More Than Help You Hear

Starkey is one of the world’s largest hearing aid makers and it is still privately owned. Founded in the United States in 1967 and based in Minnesota, it has a long record of doing things first, especially when it comes to putting health and safety features inside hearing aids.

In 2018 Starkey launched Livio AI, which it describes as the first hearing aid with built-in sensors and artificial intelligence. Its latest range, Omega AI, builds on that with AI sound processing, fall alerts and some of the longest battery life available.

Starkey’s hearing aids are designed to help you:

  • Follow conversations more easily in noisy places
  • Stream calls, music and TV straight to your ears
  • Get alerts if you fall, and track activity and wellbeing
  • Go all day, and longer, on a single charge

The Latest: Starkey Omega AI

Omega AI launched in late 2025 and is available in Australia. It is Starkey’s most advanced range so far. In October 2026 Starkey also announced Omega AI+, its next step up. Ask us about availability, as new models reach Australian clinics at different times.

What’s new

  1. Deep neural network (DNN) processing. Omega AI uses AI trained on huge numbers of real-world sounds to separate speech from background noise in real time. Starkey says Omega AI+ runs four neural networks together on its new G4 chip.
  2. Edge Mode. A one-touch boost for difficult places like restaurants and family gatherings. On Omega AI+ Premium it can stay switched on all the time.
  3. Fast processing. Starkey says Omega AI+ processes sound in about 5 milliseconds, which helps speech sound natural and in sync with what you see.
  4. Long battery life. Starkey quotes up to 51 hours on a charge for its rechargeable RIC model, and around 42 hours for its rechargeable custom models.
  5. Auracast. Connect to public audio streams at airports, gyms, cinemas and venues that support Bluetooth Auracast.
  6. Fall alerts and wellbeing. Built-in sensors can detect a fall and alert chosen contacts, and the app can track activity and engagement.

The Starkey Range

Starkey offers one of the widest choices of styles of any brand, from discreet behind-the-ear models to custom hearing aids made to fit inside your ear canal.

  1. Receiver-in-canal (RIC): RIC RT (rechargeable), RIC 312 (standard batteries) and the smaller mRIC R.
  2. Custom rechargeable: ITC R and ITE R, made from an impression of your ear. Starkey’s directional DNN features are now available in these premium custom models.
  3. Custom battery models: CIC and IIC (invisible-in-canal), for people who want the hearing aid hidden from view.
  4. Technology levels: Premium, Advanced and Standard, so you can choose the features you need and the price that suits you.

Starkey’s previous ranges, such as Genesis AI and Edge AI, may still be available in some styles and at some price points.

What Starkey Does Best

  1. Health and safety features. Starkey was the first to build health sensors into hearing aids, back in 2018. Fall alerts are a real benefit for older wearers and their families.
  2. Custom hearing aids. A broad range of custom in-ear styles, including rechargeable customs and near-invisible IIC models.
  3. Battery life. Some of the longest claimed battery life on the market, so charging is rarely a worry.

Who Starkey Suits

  1. Older adults, and families who want the reassurance of fall alerts.
  2. People who want a custom hearing aid that sits inside the ear.
  3. Busy people who don’t want to think about charging.
  4. Anyone who likes using an app to adjust, track and get help.

Apps, Remote Care and Tinnitus Support

  1. My Starkey app: adjust volume and programs, check battery, find a lost hearing aid, join Auracast streams and see activity and wellbeing data.
  2. AI help: Starkey’s built-in assistant can answer questions and make simple adjustments for you.
  3. Remote adjustments: your audiologist can fine-tune your hearing aids remotely, so you don’t always need to come in.
  4. Tinnitus: Multiflex Tinnitus Pro provides sound therapy that your audiologist sets up to suit your tinnitus.

Why Get Your Starkey Hearing Aids Fitted at NeuroAudiology

A hearing aid is only as good as the person fitting it. The same device can sound completely different depending on how it’s programmed, so the fitting matters as much as the brand.

  1. We test first. A full diagnostic hearing assessment by an audiologist comes before any recommendation. Medicare rebates may apply.
  2. We fit several leading brands. That means we recommend what suits your hearing, lifestyle and budget, not one manufacturer’s catalogue.
  3. Programmed to your results. Your hearing aids are set up from your own hearing test, then fine-tuned at follow-up visits as your brain adjusts.
  4. Government subsidised options. Eligible pensioners and DVA card holders can access subsidised hearing aids through the Hearing Services Program. We check your eligibility and handle the paperwork.
  5. Ongoing care. Follow-up appointments, fine-tuning, cleaning and remote adjustments are part of the service, at five clinics across Sydney.

Starkey Hearing Aids: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the newest Starkey hearing aid?

Starkey Omega AI, launched in late 2025, is available in Australia. Starkey announced Omega AI+ in October 2026. Ask us which models we can fit right now.

Do Starkey hearing aids really detect falls?

Yes. Supported Starkey models use built-in motion sensors to detect a fall and can send an alert to contacts you choose through the My Starkey app. Features vary by model.

Are Starkey hearing aids rechargeable?

Most of the current range is rechargeable, including the RIC and premium custom models. Battery models are still available for people who prefer them.

Do Starkey hearing aids work with my phone?

Yes. They stream calls and audio from iPhone and many Android phones, and newer models support Auracast.

Can I get Starkey hearing aids through the Hearing Services Program?

If you’re an eligible pensioner or DVA card holder, you may be able to get fully subsidised hearing aids, or top up to a higher technology level. Availability of specific Starkey models under the program varies, so we’ll show you exactly what’s covered after your hearing test.

How long do Starkey hearing aids last?

Most modern hearing aids last around five years with good care. Regular cleaning, wax guard changes and check-ups at the clinic help them last longer and keep working properly.

Do I need a hearing test before buying hearing aids?

Yes. A full hearing assessment tells us the type and degree of your hearing loss and whether anything else is going on, such as wax or a middle ear problem. It is the only way to choose and program a hearing aid properly.

Can I try hearing aids before committing?

Ask us about a trial. Wearing a hearing aid in your own daily life is the best way to know if it is right for you.
